Capuchin Ministries

Located in Detroit, Michigan and founded on core Franciscan beliefs, the Capuchins developed a religious mission to live and work among the poor, providing both spiritual counseling as well as meals and nourishment. Inspired by St Francis of Assisi, the philosophy and tradition of the Capuchin's is based upon the idea that the Good News is available to all people, rich or poor, and that service to those in need is truly a service to a greater cause.

The Capuchin Mission

• Help with people's basic needs, especially the need for food
• Work to nourish mind and spirits Address the root causes of social injustice in our community
• In all we do, we seek to build alliances with others who share a commitment to this vision

The Capuchins support the people of Detroit in many ways

• Serving full-course, nutritious meals at their meal program sites on Conner and Meldrum
• Provide a Substance Abuse and Spiritual Care Program, open to anyone
• Offer the Rosa Parks Children & Youth Program for children in need of help and support
• Establish and maintain Earthworks Urban Farm, an effort to restore balance to the environment and community, providing sustainable local agriculture

For more than 40 years, The Shelving Store has been involved with the organization and have hosted and/or sponsored the following fundraising events: Benefit on the Bay, Bocce with the Brothers, and A Gouda Evening. The admirable tenacity and devotion of the Capuchin Ministries inspires us in so many ways, which is why we donate at least 10% of our company profits annually to their cause.

Friends of Foster Care

A Michigan-based charity, the mission of Friends of Foster Care is to provide support to children in foster care from Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne counties. They provide immediate and essential needs to children from removed homes due to neglect and abuse, offer college, career, and independent services to those who have aged out of foster care but are still in need of assistance, and provide an annual “Christmas” for children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and neglect.

Since FOFK’s establishment, The Shelving Store has transported, installed, and donated shelving for their Christmas project, and continues to provide products for their storage needs. We have happily participated in picking up a wish list for a special foster kid and continue to support the work done by Friends of Foster Care.

Saint Louis Center

For over six decades, the St. Louis Center of Chelsea, Michigan has served individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in an intentional, faith-based community. Working with resident's parents, guardians, direct care professionals, and caseworkers, the staff at St. Louis Center strives to ensure their resident's needs are met. They aim to provide unique programs for their residents and individuals ranging from local employment, public education, and field trips to community events and therapies.

For nearly a decade, our company has assisted in providing chrome wire shelves for resident's closets, pallet racks for kitchen and food storage, and any storage needs the St. Louis Center has.

Selah's Center of Hope

With the mission to create a safe, compassionate, and Christ-centered environment for women with unexpected pregnancies, Selah's Center of Hope assists women through the spiritual and physical trials that come with their pregnancies. Many of the women who come to Selah's Hope Home have been abused, trafficked, or stuck in extreme poverty. Selah's provides them with pregnancy assistance, services that empower their journey toward independence, educational guidance, job assistance, and childcare.

Our Company has proudly donated shelving to help store items mothers are in need of, from baby formula to diapers. We continue to support their mission and provide shelves for any storage they are in need of.

Giveaways and Scholarships

Our company is also involved in our community through the hosting of various contests. We have held giveaways for Mother's Day, Father's Day, and partnered with the local news for our Veterans Day Giveaway, where we provide a selection of storage products to a deserving veteran.
