Three Closet Jewelry Storage Ideas

From the priciest heirloom pieces to the most reliable daily-drivers, having a well-rounded jewelry collection can finish off any wardrobe.

They sure are hard to organize sometimes, though, aren’t they?

There’s a lot of different ways to organize jewelry, and finding the one that’s best for you depends on a lot of things - how much jewelry you have, what sort of space you’re working with, and so on.

If you’ve got the closet space to spare, however, one of our favorite ways to store jewelry is safely inside the closet!

Tips for Organizing Jewelry in the Closet

Create a jewelry drawer

If you already have some closet storage set up, one of the fastest ways to keep your jewelry safe and tidy is to make a jewelry drawer!

Take an existing drawer, like you see inside bedroom dressers, and figure out how you can use it to store the sort of jewelry you wear most often. Smaller pieces like rings and earrings should be kept inside some kind of drawer organizer - you can easily repurpose office desk organizers to hold these. Necklaces could be kept on top of the drawer to avoid them losing their shape, or can be gently folded next to the drawer organizers to keep them out of the way but not all tangled in knots.

Mount shelves to the wall

We’ve all seen those fancy jewelry armoires that people use on reality shows to organize their favorite pieces. Wouldn’t it be great to have that kind of wall space?

Most normal people (like you and I) don’t have the room or ability to hang one of those up inside a closet, but the idea of using the wall can still come in handy! Look for low-profile home floating shelves and line a bare wall with two or three of them to create more space for jewelry. Use specific jewelry organizers on these shelves to keep everything even safer than they would be otherwise, and you'll always be able to get to them!

Hook it up

Of course, if you don’t have the space (or time) to go with full-on shelves, then wall hooks are a great alternative! Set up a few wall hooks with length enough for things like rings and necklaces, and you’ll be able to save space on your shelves while creating a convenient new way to store jewelry.

This won’t work for all of your accessories, of course, and in the cases of things like smaller earrings you may need to help them find a home elsewhere, like on your shelves or your nightstand. These hooks will go a long way towards freeing up space and letting you find the perfect accessories for any outfit right when you need them!
