We’ve all been there: you need to find ways to organize and decorate your home, but you’re just not feeling any of the standard options. Nightstands and bookcases are starting to feel a little stale, and maybe you want to liven the place up a little, right? An increasingly popular way to decorate homes and bring in extra shelving and organization has been to repurpose fixtures and pieces normally used in more ‘industrial’ settings to bring a unique vibe and decorative sense into any room of a home. If you’re looking for a little old-fashioned industrial inspiration, look no further!
Shelving
Shelves are one of the most popular (and easiest) items to bring into your home from an industrial setting. While a lot of people consider metal or wire shelving to be strictly for factories or offices, you can use them to bring a fun retro touch to your kitchen or bathroom - and they’re easy to decorate and install, which is even better, right? Or, if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you could build some of your own out of repurposed wood and old plumbing fixtures!
Garage Storage
A lot of people consider things like pegboards and metal cabinets as strictly used for garage storage, and while they do come in handy there you can use them plenty of places around the house too! Pegboards, normally used for holding tools, can be easily used for headboards behind beds to support decorative shelving or to hold items in the bathroom. And if you want to keep with the overall garage look, why not bring an old toolchest into the kitchen to hang onto utensils?
Trunks and Crates
While a lot of people might assume these are just for storage, you can actually have a lot of fun with them if you try. If you find an old wood and metal trunk from a vintage shipping company, careful usage of upholstery can turn them into some surprisingly comfortable benches and footrests! Or, if you’d prefer not to attach any cushions to the top, these can very easily become sturdy tables to anchor any room - and you can always keep stuff inside them, too!
Really, the important thing with repurposed decorations is that you just have to use your imagination. Whatever you come up with, the important thing is that it will be your very own design and idea.
