Re-Use Old Stuff to Make New Storage

You know what everyone has a lot of? Stuff. Whatever it is, wherever you live, you’ve probably got a lot of old shelves, suitcases, and the like hanging out around your house or apartment. Instead of letting them hang out taking up space, or dumping them unceremoniously on the curb, here’s a few tips to take common stuff around your house and turn it into new storage and organization! Bookcases Despite their name, bookcases are usable for far more uses than just books! You can slide a bookcase into a small closet to add extra shelves and organization, they can be easily turned into media tables for TVs and game consoles, and if you’re feeling adventurous they can be laid on their side and turned into a storage bench! Filing Cabinets Filing cabinets are a little more flexible than you might expect. They can be used in the garage to store tools or even serve as a workbench, they can be turned into kitchen carts for easier cooking, or they can even be turned into convenient little bar carts for entertaining guests! Suitcases Maybe you don’t travel as much as you used to, maybe you just own too darn much luggage; whatever the reason, you probably have some old suitcases hanging around. Put that extra baggage to use by stacking them up to become bedside tables, cut a piece of pegboard and lay it across the top to turn it into a phone charging station, or lay down some foam and toys and use them as a pet bed! Ladders Sure, some newer ladders might still come in handy (you’re going to have to clean those gutters someday!) but older, more rustic wooden ladders can be used elsewhere around the house to add organization and create a unique look. Hang smaller ladders over the sink to use as pot and pan holders, put them out in the garden to hold potted plants, and keep them in the laundry room to use as a drying rack! This is just the tip of the iceberg - if you have any old furniture or fixtures sitting around the house, all you need is a little imagination to turn them into fun and convenient storage ideas!
