Organizing Kids' Schoolwork and Artwork

One of the best parts of having kids is seeing them develop through school. From simple coloring and spelling assignments to their first essays, art projects, and more, some of your best memories of watching your kids grow up will involve their school years. Of course, the big downside to that (other than watching them grow up, of course) is that all this stuff has to go somewhere, right? If your children bring home a lot of schoolwork, or they make a lot of little doodles and drawings for you and the rest of your family, you’re going to want to hang onto it in a safe way that you can get into later to reminisce (or embarrass them with!). Here’s a few tips we have for organizing and storing all your kids’ artwork through the years: Separate What’s On Display And What’s In Storage: Even if you want to keep most or all of your kids’ schoolwork, you don’t always have to display it all! Take the pieces your kids are most proud of and set them aside to keep them ready for hanging or framing. This way you know what ones are going to be safely stashed aside for later! Frame Job: To really let your kids know that their work is appreciated, let them pick one or two of their favorites and get them framed to give them a real place of prominence. Framing a favorite drawing or their first A+ assignment and displaying it where everyone can see will instill them with a sense of pride and make them feel like their parents really notice and care about what they do - which is always important. Make Some Room On The Walls: The rest can be used to decorate a number of spaces. Give them a small section of the living room wall, or maybe their own bedroom or playrooms, to hang up their art or schoolwork in a place they like. This will let them feel like they had some say in where it gets displayed, and remind them that it’s being shown off for everyone to enjoy! Stash The Rest Away Safely: Everything else you plan on keeping should be put away safely so you and your kids know it will always be safe and there for them to look at when they want to. Binders, file cabinets, storage bins, and even photo albums are all perfect ideas for storing paperwork, projects, and the like. Know What To Get Rid Of: This might be a hard decision for both you and your kids to make, but if the paperwork has started to pile up you should all work together to find what you can get rid of. This will teach your kids how to tell the difference between what’s worth keeping and what’s worth getting rid of, and will make storing and displaying the stuff you want to hang onto that much easier.
