Whether you live in a home or an apartment (or anything in between), whether you’ve got a huge family or you live on your own, one thing is true about basically any living situation: you’re going to have a lot of drawers.
We use them to store a lot of things: cutlery, clothing, office supplies, and so on. But what if you’ve got more drawers than you have stuff, or at least stuff that needs to be stored in drawers, and you don’t know what you can do with all that unused space in your bedroom dressers? Fear not! We’ve got some fun ideas for how to repurpose old drawers right here!
One of the easiest ways to use old drawers is simply to move them somewhere else, like under your bed. Take an old dresser you don’t use anymore, attach some casters to the bottom, and maybe sand and paint it if you’re feeling crafty, and you’ve got some perfect under-the-bed storage that can free up some space elsewhere!
Speaking of moving them somewhere else, one of the most popular ways to repurpose old drawers is to mount them to the wall as shelves. If your drawers are deep enough, they can be easily painted up and hung to the wall as decorative wall shelves to help show off your collectibles or treasured paintings, and if you’re the woodworking type you can easily add an extra shelf or compartment on the inside!
Need another reflective surface in your house but aren’t sure where to put it? If you have a small drawer you’re not using anymore, you can hang it on a nearby wall and put some reflective glass against the back to make a homemade mirror! This works best with smaller drawers to give you another surface to fix your hair or just add a decorative touch to your entryway or living room.
But what about that giant old armoire you just don’t have space for anymore, but it’s just too big to use for any of the above suggestions? Let us ask you a question: do you have any pets? Larger drawers from bedroom dressers can be easily turned into pet beds by adding some pillows and blankets, and maybe a new touch of paint. Whether for indoor cats, outdoor dogs, or anything in between, these are the perfect place to give your pets somewhere to sleep.
Or hey, just use your imagination! Whatever you do with it, we’re sure you’ll be much happier with it than when it was just taking up space in the basement!
