Maximize the Corners in Your Closets

Closets can be a tricky thing - handy to have, but difficult to really make the most of. Part of the problem is that there’s no real standardized design for closets. Some of them are longer than they are wide, some of them are in a weird part of the room, some of them just don’t offer enough space to really make them usable. As a result, there exists a lot of methods and tips for making the most of whatever closet space you have, no matter how small or inconvenient. The only sticky part with a lot of these tips is that they don’t quite work for every closet, as not all of them are a one-size-fits-all solution. There’s one closet area, however, that could always use a little more storage - the corners! The corners of any room tend to go unused thanks to their awkward shape, as well as the fact that most shelves or storage solutions tend to focus mostly on flat walls and other easy-to-reach surfaces. However, the corners of your closet could offer a lot of new opportunities for organization and storage, so long as you know how to make the most of it!

Closet Corner Storage Ideas

Create a “reach-in closet” Most of the time, corners in closets just represent space that hasn’t been used in any real way. A quick way to maximize this space is to create a reach-in closet that gives you deeper space for certain items. On each side of the corner, line your walls with wall shelves at staggered heights to provide different levels of storage for things like sweaters, purses, and the like. This is especially helpful in areas that are partially obscured by a wall, or that may be blocked off by the hanging rail. Shorter rods Similarly, if your corners are blocked off by a wall protrusion, using some closet hanging rods or wall mounted garment racks to fill the space between the wall and the back of the closet is a great way to get a little extra room for those sweaters, dress shirts, blouses, and dresses that need to be hung up safely. Corner shelving Of course, not every closet is a viable candidate for corner rods due to their layout, and as a result you may need to seek other options. One convenient way to make the most of your corners is to use corner wire shelving, designed specifically for this purpose. It might require a bit of measurement to figure out the exact size you need, but this can be a great way to add extra surface area where you need it. Conversely, if you have the height for a wall-mounted solution, then corner wall shelving could help add storage, particularly in closets without a main shelf up top. Rounded closet rods Of course, if all you need is more space for hangers, then curved closet rods could help you fill the gaps in any corner of your closet. Measure the distance between the two connected walls, and see if you have space for a few extra rods to help maximize your hanger capacity. Even the ability to throw a few more sweaters in there will go a long way! Hopefully one of these tips will help you get your closet better organized, less cluttered, and more productive overall!
