It’s one of the most common organizational problems a person can face - overstuffed dresser drawers! Maybe you’ve got too many favorite shirts, maybe your dresser is too small, or maybe you’ve just never been sure where everything should go. We’ve got five easy steps here to get you started on your way to a much tidier dresser (and less wrinkled clothes)!
Step One: You’re going to hate this, but you’ll want to start by taking everything out. And this part might be even worse, but then you’re going to have to find some things you can part with. Items that are out of style, things that don’t fit, that shirt with the unfortunate coffee stains...anything you don’t need or can’t see yourself wearing in the near future can go. If you have any items you’re hanging onto for sentimental reasons, then you might want to consider some kind of alternate use for it like a craft project or a display piece somewhere.
Step 2: The next thing to do is separate everything by function. Pajamas go with pajamas, undergarments go with undergarments, and so on. Depending on the size of your armoire or dresser, you can probably get away with separating everything into four piles, one drawer per pile, to save room and help keep like with like.
Step 3: After your clothes are divided, time to figure out what goes where! Your most frequently-used items should go near the top (trying to focus on the lightest items to put the least strain on your dresser) and heavier, less-needed things can go near the bottom as it won’t be accessed as often.
Step 4: Once you’ve got everything planned out, you’re going to want to take some time to divide your drawers to make the most of your space. If your drawers don’t already have dividers, you can use bookends or plastic storage bins to help open up the space and keep everything separate in your drawers to keep them organized in the future!
Step 5: Finally, there’s nothing left but to put everything away! Get a folding board to make sure your shirts are folded as close and as crisply as possible, and remember to file items instead of stacking them; keep everything folded and rolled up next to each other and close to make sure you never have to do this again! (...right?)
