How To Organize Your Bedroom (When There's No Room For A Nightstand)

We’ve all lived a few places where space was at a premium. Maybe you just never wanted anything too expansive, maybe you were stuck in a tiny dorm room for a while, or maybe you just had some stuff you needed to keep in your bedroom that got in the way of a nightstand. You might not have even noticed your nightstand was missing until you suddenly realized you didn’t have anywhere to keep a glass of water or your glasses, and then suddenly it wasn’t just something you took for granted anymore. Whatever the case, if you find yourself without a nightstand in your bedroom, we’ve got some tips here to help you still get all the storage you need without having to cram a table or a nightstand in there somewhere: Lower Your Wall Shelves Even if your floor is too full for a nightstand, there’s one thing every bedroom has: walls! One of the easiest solutions for a missing nightstand is to mount some decorative wood shelves (or floating glass shelves if you prefer the glass look) right at your beside within reach to give you a resting place for your smaller things. It might not provide the same amount of storage as a full nightstand, but it can still give you somewhere to keep your phone, your book, and a nightlight when it’s bedtime. Dresser Double Duty Depending on the layout of your bedroom, you might be able to get your dresser to work even harder for you! With a smaller bedroom dresser you could rearrange things so the dresser is closer to the bed and use the top of it in the same way you’d use a nightstand, in addition to all of the clothes and everything you’re already keeping in it! Bookcases & Storage Cubes Speaking of pulling double-duty, a lot of bookcases and storage cubes can be re-used to give your bedroom some more space! If you have a lot of stuff you need to get to in the morning, like your phone or some vitamins or even just your reading glasses, a storage cube mounted out of the way above the headboard can be a great spot to keep everything without using up more floor space. Look Under Your Bed If you’ve got a high enough bed, a small platform or drawer under your bed can take the place of a nightstand. Under-the-bed dressers, long storage bins, or even just a small wheeled platform or dolly can be pulled out from under your bed and provide a place for things like books and tablets that you want nearby during bedtime but maybe don’t need out all night. Plant It On A Plant Stand Even if you don’t have enough room for an entire nightstand, a smaller plant stand is a good solution for nightstand needs. Just enough surface room to keep things on without crowding out your already-cluttered bedroom, a plant stand can be a good call for smaller areas when no other shelving or drawers can fit. Set It On A Stool Finally, in a lot of cases, a stool or ottoman can be a great ersatz table if you have the room! Find a small footstool or bar stool to squeeze in next to your bed, and in the morning when you can actually reach your phone to hit snooze on the alarm you’ll be glad it’s still there.
