Helping Dad Organize for Father's Day

Ah, Father’s Day. A perfect time to remind your dad that you love him, and you’re more than happy to eat anything he prepares on the grill. But despite what sitcoms and movies might say, dads have a lot to do around the house too, and Father’s Day is a great excuse to get over there and help out! Here’s a few of the most common rooms around the house dads like to take over as their own, and how you can help tidy up! The Garage: One of the most popular hangout spots for the average North American dad, the garage is generally one of the parts of the house most in need of a good cleaning. Once you’ve convinced him to get rid of that half-finished spice rack that was taking up too much space, you’ve got a few options for cleaning up. You can get some plastic storage bins to hang onto the smaller items that every garage has like nails and tacks, you can hang up sports equipment racks to take care of his golf clubs and baseball gear, and there’s always garage shelves to hang onto the bigger stuff. The Basement : Now we’re not saying you have to go crazy and make an entire mancave for your dad, but a little tidying up and moving stuff around is always appreciated down there. If he’s already got a cool basement set up, you could offer to move the chairs, help set up the TV (or help get a new one if you’re feeling really generous), or even just re-stock the fridge. If your dad’s basement is more for storage at this point, he’d probably appreciate the addition of wire shelving and storage bins to help keep whatever he stores down there off the floor. You know, old issues of Popular Mechanics, tools he doesn’t want to keep in the garage , probably a VCR...dad stuff! The Kitchen: Alright, before you jump to conclusions, we’ve seen plenty of dads who fancy themselves an amateur chef (we blame the Food Network) and probably have a lot of kitchen implements they’ve bought on a whim. A new kitchen island would give him more cooking space and room to store utensils, and a kitchen cabinet organizer would help give him more room to store all those hot sauces he buys when he goes on vacation. (That’s something everyone’s dad does, right?) And while you’re here, it would be awful polite if you offered to do the cooking for Father’s Day. Or at least pay for a pizza. Even if you don’t wind up getting a lot done this weekend, just take a second to remind your dad how appreciated he is. Happy Father’s Day from everyone here at The Shelving Store!
