We’ve all had our share of holiday horror stories, right? From burned dinners to horrible weather to unruly guests (let’s all be honest here), there’s really a lot to go wrong when it comes to trying to put together the perfect Thanksgiving dinner.
But fret not! While we can’t control every aspect of your dinner, we can provide these tips to get your kitchen ready to provide the tastiest Thanksgiving meal possible!
Free Up Some Space
With as messy as cooking tends to get normally, a meal on the scale of Thanksgiving is going to be even worse when it comes to the mess and clutter department. When the time comes to start getting ready for the big holiday meal, make sure to free up any available counter space you can - you’re gonna need it! Move any appliances you won’t need out of the way (are you really going to need a blender for Thanksgiving?)and put away your beloved knickknacks to optimize every available bit of work space. If your regular countertops won’t be enough, you could always wheel in some kitchen islands to give yourself an easy-to-use mobile work surface for whatever it is you have to prepare.
Clean. Everything.
If there’s one thing every Thanksgiving meal is going to require, it’s a lot of equipment. Dishes, silverware, pots and pans, basically everything you can find in your kitchen is going to come in handy at some point. Set some time aside before you get started preparing dishes to make sure you’ve got enough clean dishes to keep them in! You’ll finally be able to prove why you kept that entire set of glass cooking trays that you never opened.
Make Sure Your Appliances Are Up To Snuff
This one might be a bit pricier, but you’ll thank yourself if it comes down to it. Set aside a day to make sure your oven, microwave, and anything else you’ll be needing are in good working order. You’ll thank yourself when you avoid the heartache of knowing you have to call in someone to repair your trusty old gas range the day before Thanksgiving with a lonely turkey left thawing on the counter.
Remember to Pace Yourself!
Sure, we all want our Thanksgivings to be just perfect, but that doesn’t mean you need to make yourself sick! Set aside plenty of time for each task to avoid feeling rushed, and try to remember not to stress out! It isn’t the end of the world if you can’t quite perfect your mom’s old stuffing recipe or if you don’t have time to polish up your fine silver setting trays.
Follow these tips and keep our advice in mind, and you should have no problem getting your kitchen ready for Turkey Day!
