Out of every room that gets revisited for cleaning every so often, it feels like the bathroom is the one that needs the most help sometimes, doesn’t it? There’s constantly people using it, there’s a ton of stuff that needs to be kept in there, and it seems like it can get out of hand within days of it being cleaned the last time.
So instead of giving you the same-old-same-old bathroom organization advice, we’ve tried to find some ideas to tidy up your bathroom and hopefully make it easier to clean next time! (Or at least lessen the headache in the meanwhile!)
Give everyone their own storage bin: Especially if you have multiple people all trying to fight for the same space (a common problem in single-bathroom households) a great way to start is to separate everyone’s personal products into their own plastic storage bins. This is a good method for organizing the personal stuff that isn’t shared; things like toothpaste don’t really need to go in here but deodorant, hair products, and personal effects can go in here to keep them out of the way (and to make sure nobody accidentally grabs anyone else’s toothbrush or deodorant stick!).
Get those drawers and cabinets under control: Once everyone’s personal stuff has been sorted up, you’re probably still left with a pile of general-use products that the entire family needs. At this point a good strategy would be to repurpose some kitchen cabinet organizers to help organize medicine bottles, toothpaste tubes, extra shampoo, and the other stuff that’s taking up space in the closet and under the sink. Drawer dividers can come in handy if you have extra drawers full of hairbrushes and hair ties, too.
Increase your towel space: A pretty common space-hog in bathrooms is towels, particularly when they have nowhere else to go. If need be, get some extra towel racks or repurpose some coat hooks to free up space for everyone’s towels so they’re not in the way - or worse, hanging over something they shouldn’t and drying incorrectly. Nobody needs that gross used-towel smell!
Use wall space better: If you don’t have a linen closet, or if you do but it’s a little...small and packed to the brim, you might want to think about getting some wall mounted wire shelves to make the most of your wall space. These can be used for towels, extra soap and shampoo, or anything else you have that doesn’t quite have a home yet.
Keep a cart nearby: Even above and beyond the old reliable shower caddy, there’s always going to be a need for easy access to things like loofahs and facial wash while you’re in the shower. If you have the room, a fun way to keep these items at hand is to repurpose a wire utility cart or a kitchen cart to use as a mobile bathroom station to keep cosmetics, cleaning supplies, and anything else you need right nearby.
These are only a few starting places, of course, but hopefully they’ll help prevent you having to work quite as hard on the bathroom next time!
