Five Tips To Hide Your Clutter In Plain Sight

Let’s face it: everyone has a lot of stuff these days, right? Collections, decorations, plain ol’ house stuff, whatever you wanna call it, it all adds up to one thing: clutter. And sometimes you just might not know what to do with it! There’s all kinds of storage solutions and options out there, but sometimes those can wind up taking up even more space than the stuff you were trying to store originally. If you’re starting to have that problem in your home, you might be able to find some clever ways to take care of your clutter right there in the open without that much actual cleaning! Ready to give it a try? Here’s some ways to get started: Put It On Display: There’s a very fine line between ‘clutter’ and ‘collectables’ in the first place, so why not try both? Take some of your themed clutter, group it together, and show it off like you bought it all on purpose (because you totally did, right?). Decorative wall shelving is perfect for this - find a color that matches your den or living room and get some of your clutter up on the wall to be properly shown off and enjoyed. Look Under The Bed: We know, we know, your mom used to yell at you for doing it as a kid, but that space under your bed can really come in handy for keeping stuff out of the way (but not totally out of sight or out of mind)! If you have a bed with storage drawers you’re already well on your way, but if not then you can grab some plastic storage bins to store things like seasonal clothing or shoes you don’t wear that often, all while keeping them in an easy-to-access area! Take It Outside: A lot of people fall into the trap of thinking certain storage types can only be used in the room they’re designed for, but breaking out of that can give you a lot of de-cluttering options for other areas of the house! Wire shelving carts can be brought in from the garage and used to hold onto extra utensils and dishes in the kitchen, or you can flip-flop that and take your kitchen carts outside to hang onto tools in the garage or basement! Or, if you’re feeling especially handy, you can mount some old pegboard to a cart to hold onto your outdoor supplies and recycle some parts around the house you don’t need! Show Off Your Pots & Pans: Speaking of kitchens, one of the biggest sources of clutter in the kitchen are pots and pans. Instead of letting them clog up your cabinets and pantries, find a way to display them on the walls! Hang up some pegboard or wall hooks/coat hooks to show off those pots and pans you’ve collected over the years and free up space for the nine hundred other things you have to stash in your kitchen! Get Crafty: This step is going to require that you have the ability to build stuff into your home (and that you have the skills necessary to do it) but there’s a lot of things around your house that can easily be retrofitted to hold onto some extra clutter! If you have stairs, they can be readily modified to become drawers for storing extra clothes, books, or whatever needs to be put away. Pantries can be easily expanded with additional shelves and cabinet organizers to expand their capacity and give you more room to work with. Just don’t be afraid to get dirty and you can solve a lot of your storage problems! And hey, if all else fails, you might just need to hold a garage sale and ditch some of that extra clutter you don’t need anymore. But before you give up your favorite collectibles, try this first!
