Five Clever Ways To Organize A Small Kitchen

With as cluttered as your average kitchen can get, it’s twice as bad when your kitchen is small. Not that this has totally ever happened to any of us here, but it can be kind of a surprise when you move into a new place and your kitchen isn’t exactly as big as you expected. Organizing smaller kitchens is perhaps the only thing more difficult than organizing a regular-sized kitchen, and in cases like that you need to work with all of the space you can find. If you find yourself struggling with a small kitchen and need to find a way to store everything you need, here’s a couple tips we’ve found to make the most of your limited space! Cabinets can be one of the first victims of a small kitchen, as they’ve likely been compressed to make extra headroom for the kitchen itself. In that case, why not try putting in some shelves to add a little vertical space? Kitchen cabinet organizers can be kept in your cabinets to let you store more items and make the most out of what little space is available in there. This is especially handy if you find yourself having to store a lot of canned goods or things like pasta that aren’t easily stacked due to limited room. If your cabinets are smaller to fit in with your smaller kitchen area, you’ve probably got a smaller under-the-sink area too, which can make it a lot harder to store bigger items like dish soap and cleaning brushes. Using over the door storage can be a quick solution to this issue, providing an area where smaller things like brushes and sponges can be kept while freeing up the area under your sink for bigger stuff that can’t really go elsewhere. Speaking of the sink, sinks tend to lead to a lot of unused vertical space due to their placement in the middle of a counter. If you have the headroom and need some more storage (especially if your sink’s design doesn’t lend itself to providing surface area), getting some smaller wire shelving and placing it right above your sink will give you a lot more surface area to work with. But it isn’t just about looking up - you can also use the sides of walls and cabinets to help! If space for glasses and plates is at a premium, then you might want to consider mounting some smaller decorative wall shelves along the walls (or on the side of your cabinets, but only if you know they can support the weight!) to give you an extra spot for cups, plates, and the like. Finally, after all that, the best solutions might be the most simple. Some storage problems can be solved with the simple addition of some plastic storage bins into your cabinets. Keeps everything tidy and organized without requiring a lot of installation, and hey - it’ll help prevent messes too! Whatever you wind up doing, when it comes to tiny kitchens just remember to use your imagination. If you can solve your space problem in an easy way, we say go for it!
