Winter is a lot of things - romantic, charming, an excuse for snow days...and occasionally kind of depressing.
There’s no shame in feeling a little sluggish and moody around wintertime, particularly in those dreary few months between the holidays and springtime. If you’re looking for an inexpensive and invigorating way to chase off the winter blues, a fast round of home redecoration can prove helpful for livening up your surroundings and (hopefully) improving your mood! Check out these tips for bringing some cheer and warmth back into your life through the end of the cold months:
Bring Nature Indoors: One of the most frequently-attributed causes of wintertime blues is a distinct lack of natural colors. Bringing some potted plants into your home can help fight air pollution, boost creativity, and create a more peaceful and ‘natural’ feeling through your home. Sure, it isn’t quite the same thing as taking an actual walk outside, but keeping a well-trimmed bonsai tree or some of your favorite flowers around the house will stop you from feeling so cooped up during winter.
Get Comfy: Warm, inviting decorations and colors are also a big help for chasing away the winter blahs. Try to avoid more ‘sterile’ looking colors or materials and instead go for more inviting surfaces like decorative wood shelves and brighter colors to help liven up your surroundings. Seeing a splash of color or something more warm and natural will help keep your spirits up and remind you that spring is coming back...someday.
Here Comes The Sun: Sunlight does a lot for the human body - production of vitamin D and C, increase in serotonin and melatonin levels, and so on. You don’t have to be a doctor to appreciate that these are all good things and terribly important for maintaining a positive mood in winter, and getting some sunlight is a great way to chase off any bad feelings this time of year. Keep the blinds open, rearrange things to allow the most sunlight possible to get in during the day, and if you feel like braving the weather, taking a walk during the day works wonders.
Remember To Keep Busy: And above all else, remembering to stay active and keep busy can help fight off the winter blues just as well as any interior decorating. Combining the two is great - starting some projects around the house to redecorate and let some sunlight in will help keep you focused and give you something to shoot for, helping keep your mind active and working. It’ll do a lot of good and provide long-term benefits after your projects are done!
Hopefully these tips will help cheer you up during the winter months. And just remember: spring isn’t too far off!
