As you might have heard from our very own Joe Schodowski during his recent appearance on Fox 2 News, January is National Get Organized Month!
It’s a perfect time of year for it, too - you’re cleaning up after the holidays, you’re working through whatever your home improvement New Year’s Resolutions are, and now is a great opportunity to take a little extra time and get your home all organized and put away! We’ve got a list of tips and action items here to get you started:
Identify How You Can Benefit From Organization: The easiest way to motivate yourself into working on a big project like this is to get an idea of how exactly you can benefit from doing so. Your home will be cleaner, you’ll have more room to store more things, you’ll be able to find things more quickly...sure, it might sound like a bit of a time investment, but the long-term benefits will be more than worth it once you’re done.
Figure Out What You Need To Do: After you’ve worked up the motivation to get going, the best way to start is by making a list of what needs organized and how to do it. Do you need to buy wire shelving to get everything in its place. Does your kitchen needs some bakers racks to free up room and help find a home for everything? Or maybe you just need to go through and donate some old clothes you never wear anymore? Whatever it is that will help your home the most, now’s the time to figure out what to do.
Get Equipped: Many times, good organization requires bringing some new storage solutions into your house. Once you figure out what parts of your home need the most organizational help, you’ll want to figure out what you’ll need to best accomplish your goals. From basement shelves to new racks for the bathroom, make a shopping list of whatever you’ll need to get things neat and tidy and get your orders in.
Nothing To It But To Do It: At this point, all you have to do now is to get to work! Make a list of what you need to do and spread it out so it doesn’t get too daunting, and then as you have time tackle your projects. It’s important not to overwhelm yourself; a lot of these can look pretty intimidating but if you don’t stress too hard about getting it all done at once and make sure you give yourself plenty of time, it will get way more manageable.
Best of luck with your Get Organized Month plans, and if you need any help, feel free to contact us with your questions!
