We’ve talked a lot in the past about the various benefits of getting organized - hey, we’re The Shelving Store, it’s kinda what we do! - but there’s one we haven’t touched on much that we think everyone can be interested in: saving money!
Getting (and staying) organized is actually a great way to help you and your family save money in addition to time, and in ways that you might not even think of at first. But hey, you don’t just have to take our word for it: here’s a few examples of how good organization can save your family money, time, and stress in the long run!
Never Lose Mail Or Bills
One of the easiest ways to start running up your expenses is by falling behind on bills, and let’s face it, not every utility or credit card company is advanced enough to have moved on from old-fashioned paper mailing bills yet. Don’t let your bills pile up on a countertop somewhere - get some mail organizers to hang onto and organize your mail to separate the bills and keep them right where you need them in order to get them paid on time!
Keep Track Of Your Clothes
Nothing is worse than running out to buy an item of clothing you need for a big meeting at work or a fun night out (a sweater, a purse, whatever) and finding out you already owned one just like it, buried deep within your closet. Keeping your closet organized with closet organizers will help keep you well aware of what you already own and keep your clothes safe from wear and tear, preventing you from having to buy too many replacements. (Of course, if you’re something of a shopaholic already, we’re not sure if this will stop you!)
Help Save Food In The Kitchen
Other than maybe the basement, the kitchen is the room in your house most prone to clutter, and since most everything in the kitchen can spoil, keeping everything organized, labeled, and within reach can help prevent food waste. Organizing your pantry with cabinet organizers will help keep everything right within reach, from spices to dishes and everything in between, and prevent over-purchasing of perishables. Trust us, nobody needs three different jars of oregano, particularly when you keep buying them because you forget you have any.
Get More Done
Losing your wallet, purse, and/or keys is always a frustrating experience, especially when you need to get out the door and get things done. Hang some key hooks in your entryway or mudroom to make sure your house keys, wallets, and gloves are right where you need them when you’re ready to get to work or run errands. Your boss will be happy to see you on time, your workload will seem more manageable, and hey, maybe you’ll even start to enjoy those trips to the grocery store!
Make The Most Of Your Home
This one might sound a little vague, but trust us - it’s one of the most important. Organizing living spaces and common rooms can bring multiple benefits, all of which your bank account will thank you for. If you can get your living room arranged in a way that’s spacious and comfortable for everyone, you won’t feel so ‘cooped up’ and want to get out on the town more often, which translates to less money for entertainment expenses. And better yet, if you can keep your cables and plugs straightened out, you can even lower your electrical bills by managing the power used by items that don’t always have to be plugged in.
Hopefully these tips will help make your home more comfortable and keep your wallet fat and happy!
