We do a lot of talking here about cleaning and organizing, it’s true - it’s kind of our thing, after all! But even with all the helpful tips we like to think we’ve provided you, there’s a few rooms or parts of your home that may not get the attention they should. If you’re looking for some inspiration to clean things in your home that aren’t the same old kids’ rooms and living rooms again, we’ve got a few tips here to help you attend to the less-attended-to rooms and areas of your home:
Pantries: Sure, you probably clean your kitchens on at least a semi-frequent basis, but for most people “cleaning the kitchen” means cleaning gunk off the counters and sinks. Meanwhile, there’s probably a can of refried beans languishing in a dark corner of one of your pantries or cabinets somewhere, unloved. Why not get some kitchen cabinet organizers and take a second to tidy up your cabinets and pantries to get rid of anything you won’t use and make it a little more accessible?
Windows and Blinds: Let’s be honest, when’s the last time you’ve actually cleaned your windows, blinds, or curtains off? About once a month, try to wipe down the inside of your windows (and the outside, weather permitting) to let some more light in. And if you’re feeling adventurous, go ahead and vacuum all the dust off your curtains or blinds or a fresher look!
Entertainment Center & Media Stands: TV stands tend to go neglected over time, especially after you’ve already got your TV box and video game systems set up - after all, why reorganize if everything works? But these can get dusty over time if you’re not careful, and it’s worth taking a second to dust off and wipe down your TV screen, your shelves, and any Blu-rays or media you keep there.
Back Porch/Entryway: A lot of people do good work with their entryways and mudrooms, but this means their back porch goes a little neglected. Back porches or rear entryways can always use a little more organization space or wire shelving to help keep things like snowboots, dog toys, or other bigger ‘outdoor’ accessories organized and out of the way!
Crawlspaces: Sadly, we’ve saved the grossest one for last. A lot of older houses (particularly in the Midwest where we are) have crawlspaces, and these can be a soruce of trouble if left uncleaned. Every once in a while get some protective clothes and head down there to make sure there’s no rodents or major structural damage that could affect your house like standing water. And if you see mold - remember to call a professional!
With these tips, maybe you’ll be inspired to take a look at some of the less-traveled rooms in your home and give them a good cleaning!
